Grass Lake Schools Names Tyler Hughes Hired As Athletic Director

Grass Lake, Michigan- At the June 8, 2026 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the
hiring of Tyler Hughes as the district’s next Athletic Director.

Tyler brings a wealth of experience to this position having served as the Athletic Director and
Academic Interventionist at Springport for the last three years. Tyler has also had 7 years
experience as a former Social Studies Teacher at Sturgis Middle School/Jackson Prep Early
College.

Tyler has an extensive coaching background having served as a Head Basketball Coach at Spring
Arbor University where he also played as an athlete on the basketball team. Predating this he has
over a decade of experience coaching at various youth levels.

Tyler earned his BA at Spring Arbor University and his MBA in Sports Management from Tiffin
University with a focus in Organizational Management and Leadership. Tyler received his
certification as a Registered Athletic Administrator and is currently pursuing advanced
administrative/athletic certifications.

athletics, student centered leadership and the ability to create deep connections with staff,

experience, connections to Jackson County and his passion for the role of athletics is exactly
what we are looking for. Grass Lake has a rich tradition and high expectations for our programs
and we believe that Tyler will continue this and move us forward in areas that we need to reach
