Mr. Learned Announced as George Long Elementary School Assistant Principal
This is my 10th year in education and my first as an Assistant Principal. I’m looking forward to this new challenge and exciting way to interact with students, teachers, and parents. I spent my first 4 years teaching 8th grade algebra, the next year as K-3 STEM teacher, and the last 4 as 6th grade math teacher at Columbia Central Schools. Each year I strive to make the learning environment student centered, allowing them to grow and love coming back to school every day.
After graduating from Springport High School (2002), I spent 6 years as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy. I had the privilege of observing many leadership styles and eventually becoming a unit leader. In 2010, I completed my BA is Elementary Education at Southern Illinois University, Cardondale. In 2017, I completed my MA in Educational Leadership from Marygrove College.
I have also had the good fortune to coach baseball (Varsity and JV), wrestling (MS, Varsity), and robotics (FLL- elementary) over the past 9 years. Watching our young people work hard and gain life experiences through extra curricular activities has been a source of joy in my education/coaching career. I look forward to continuing to work with the young people of George Long Elementary School.
My wife, Natalie, and I have been married for 14 years and have 4 wonderful children (Wesley 10, Elliana 7, Nolan 5, Sabrina 2). We enjoy playing sports, family movie nights, playing board games and card games, and cheering on ALL University of Michigan sports! We were even able to cheer on the Wolverine baseball team in Omaha this summer at the college world series!
