Grass Lake HS Football 2020 Summer Workout Guidelines -

We feel both fortunate and excited to be able to start preparations for the 2020 football season. We are very aware of the need for this to happen in a safe and responsible manner. Social distancing meaning players and coaches remaining constantly 6 feet apart will be strictly enforced.

To assist us in this process, we would ask that players do not show up early to workouts and also be picked up directly after workouts (goal would be a 5 minute window for drop off/pick up). Our workout plan to start with will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00-6:00 P.M.

We need athletes to bring their own water bottles as we can not provide common area water stations as we have in the past.

Upon arriving to the practice field, players are asked to report directly to their check in coach to answer health questions and go directly onto the field.

We ask that players do not bring footballs to workouts as we will not introduce any commonly touched item such as a ball or dumbbell into workouts for at least the first week.

Formats for workouts:
5 minutes-Check in, greet, and instructions.

5 minutes-Dynamic Warm up.

Pod Sessions- Separated by grades, may consist of Agility Drills, Speed Development, Stance and Starts, Position Specific Drills, Body Weight Strength Training, Core Work, Hill/Incline Running, etc.

10 minutes-Pod Session #1 (8 minutes active, 2 minutes transition to next)

10 minutes-Pod Session #2

5 minutes-Break

10 minutes-Pod Session #3

10 minutes-Pod Session #4

5 Minutes-Group Work and Close

Total time 60 minutes, starting and ending on time.

Players are encouraged to wear football cleats if possible. In the event of inclement weather (e.g. lightning), we will cancel workouts, or we will terminate workouts if already started and ask that players be picked up as soon as possible since we will not have access to any school buildings.

We take seriously, the responsibility of keeping athletes under our direction safe and healthy. Along that line of thinking, we believe that proper conditioning and strength training are very important parts of athlete safety in football and any other sport and hope that you will encourage athletes to attend workouts as often as possible. We cannot wait to begin working with our 2020 JV and Varsity Warrior football teams and know that as always: “IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A WARRIOR!!!”.
