Extra School Closing Days Waived - Last Day of School is June 7
During the past winter, Grass Lake Community Schools closed a total of eight days due to inclement weather, with two of those days being declared weather emergencies by Governor Whitmer due to extreme cold. Schools are allowed six days of weather-related school closings in Michigan without a requirement to make up the days. A waiver program was approved by Michigan's legislature that would allow school districts to have the two declared emergency days waived by the State.
Superintendent Dr. Ryle Kiser reports that after submitting an application for a waiver, Grass Lake Community Schools was approved for the waiver, which will eliminate the need to make up any days for this school year. Our last day of the 2018-2019 school year will remain Friday, June 7.
