Common School Calendar Approved for 2016-2017 School Year -
Through the approval of 13 Boards of Education in Jackson County, and the approval of a waiver from the Michigan Department of Education to begin school before Labor Day for the next three years, plans are now in place to begin the 2016-2017 school year on Wednesday, August 24, with the final day of the school year to be Thursday, June 8, barring any requirements to make up days for weather, etc. This common calendar will allow all Jackson County districts to begin and end on the same day, to have common holidays and breaks, and will allow for school semesters to better align with college schedules, which will provide for a much more seamless opportunity for High School students to take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities. This move was prompted by the newly mandated requirement that all schools schedule 180 days of education for their students annually, thus preventing the school year from going too far into the month of June.
