Two-Tier Busing vs. One-Tier Busing
Because of a shortage of bus drivers to begin the 2021-2022 school year, our school district implemented two-tier busing that included two runs: an early run with 6th through 12th graders, and a subsequent run with Kindergarten through 5th graders. This system was an alternative to our former system of one-tier busing that included all K-12 students riding the same bus for a single route.
The Grass Lake Board of Education is now asking for input from our school families regarding your thoughts toward two-tier busing and one-tier busing, which will provide information toward planning bus transportation for the 2022-2023 school year.
Please go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/
r/GLCS_Busing_Survey to complete a survey that will help our Board of Education with their decision to continue with two-tier busing, or to return to a one-tier busing system at Grass Lake Community Schools for the 2022-2023 school year. This survey will expire at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 28.
Reminder - Masks on Buses Required
We continue to field questions regarding the requirement for all bus passengers to wear face masks properly while on our buses. This requirement is a federal mandate through the Center for Disease Control that is in place until March 18, 2022. Our school district has literally gone through thousands of disposable masks as we supply them for our students who do not carry them. To slow the flow of disposable masks, effective Wednesday, January 12, we will have three-layered cloth masks in our school offices that will be distributed at no cost to students requesting them. It will be our plan that students receiving these masks will keep them in their possession. It is our expectation that 100% of our bus passengers are wearing masks whenever they are on our bus. https://www.transit.dot.gov/TransitMaskUp
Substitute Teachers Needed
Grass Lake Community Schools pay substitute teachers $120 per day for working in our classrooms. As a substitute you would be an employee of EDUStaff and will have to go through their hiring process, which includes fingerprinting, some information modules and an orientation meeting. If you are interested, go to www.edustaff.org and apply. Once you are officially hired as a substitute with EduStaff, please contact our school offices to let us know you are available and that we can call you directly to fill positions.
