Mid-Summer Meet Up of the GLMS Summer Book Club -
Our Grass Lake Middle School now has a Summer Book Reading Club, whose members came together for a book talk recently. Club advisor Mrs. Burg described the meeting....."It was a beautiful night to dip your toes in the lake and talk about books. We had a great time splashing around and discussing "Brown Girl Dreaming", "Not If I Save You First", "Smart Cookie", and "Echo". We also started planning lunch time book clubs for the up coming school year, with students taking on leadership roles. Next up is "Short", "The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora), and "Scar Island" with ice cream sundaes on Friday, August 24th, right after school." The Grass Lake Educational Foundation is proud to have participated in the funding of this project.

The "Read to Them" helps schools implement a "One School, One Book" program to encourage and enable reading together at home by providing every school with tools, resources, guidance, and support. Grass Lake Middle School teacher Joanna Botte initiated a Grass Lake Middle School "Read to Them" program by writing for and receiving a grant from the Grass Lake Educational Foundation for funding, and implemented the program this past fall. Recently Ms. Botte's GLMS program was highlighted in the "Read to Them" spring newsletter. Thank you to Ms. Botte for implementing this program for our students, and thanks to The Grass Lake Educational Foundation for funding it. Go to https://bit.ly/2JF4NmB to see the newsletter review.
