Jackson Area Career Center Student Success

  • Congratulations to Grass Lake High School students Chloe Kyer, Hannah McFarland and Katrina Nichol, as they are now headed to the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) national competition in Orlando, Florida, after helping their Jackson Area Career Center HOSA teams place in the TOP 8 out of 45 TEAMS at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Grand Rapids! We applaud Chloe, Hannah, and Katrina for their successes, and wish them well at the national competition.

Back in the fall, HOSA students were tasked with creating an anti-teen smoking public service announcement (PSA) titled: "Be The First Tobacco-free Generation". In addition to creating a 30-second PSA, they had to come up with a speech as to what their video was about, how they put it together, why they chose to illustrate the way they did, etc.

Competition started on the local level, as the teams were judged by Jackson Area Career Center staff. The top-scoring teams from the local level have now been competing at regional events ever since.
