Grass Lake HIgh School Forensics

  • 3/11 Congratulations to our Grass Lake High School Forensics Team who participated in Novi this past weekend in the Spring Festival and Novice State Tournament sponsored by Michigan Speech Coaches, Inc. This is basically two tournaments in one: a state final for all first year competitors and a regular tournament for all other students.

Team Advisor Mrs. Amy Janz announced that Chris Pongracz placed seventh in prose interpretation in the novice tournament, while Rebecca Rigg placed the highest of the entire team at second in Dramatic Interpretation.

Thanks to Chris and Rebecca's scores, as well as the sweepstakes points earned by Solomon Anderson, Heather McArthur, McKenzie Molnar, and Elsa Miller, Grass Lake ranked third in the medium sized team category, bringing home another trophy. Well done GLHS Forensics Team!

2/9 Our Grass Lake High School Forensics Team hosted a multi-school tournament today. Overall, our team points earned from our team members' individual scores earned enough points to earn first place overall. Congratulations to our team for this impressive victory.

Following is a list of our individual successes shared with us by Forensics Club Advisor and Grass Lake High School English teacher Mrs. Amy Janz:
    In Prose interpretation -
    Chris Pongracz- 3rd Place
    Elsa Miller - 2nd Place
In Dramatic Interpretation - the most competitive event of the day:
    Elle Durkee - 5th place
    Shaun Burk - 4th place
    Makenzie Molnar - 3rd place
    Solomon Anderson - 1st Place
    In Poetry Interpretation
    Snowy Iverson - 3rd Place
    Elle Durkee - 2nd Place
    In Duo Improvisation
Shaun Burk and Elsa Miller - 1st place

Having a successful meet depends on the organization of our advisor and the help of dedicated volunteers. Mrs. Janz shared the following with thanks for their help.
    GL Staff Members:
Larry Shaltis - Arriving at 6:30 in the morning and setting up the auditorium
    Angelee Connors - event judge
Kelly Minick - catering the judge's lunch
Chris Miller - running the prep room
Julia Pongracz, Rachael Anderson - judging and post tournament clean up
GLHS Alumni and former forensics competitors:
    Phoebe Miller - event judge
    Morgan Bell - event judge

From Mrs. Janz: "I cannot express enough how wonderful it is to serve in a district and community that supports this program so well."
