Late Start this Wednesday, September 20This is a reminder to our Grass Lake Community Schools families that this Wednesday, September 20, will be our monthly 2-hour delayed start for planned teacher professional development. All school buildings will begin classes two hours later than their regularly scheduled times and all buses will begin their routes two hours later than regularly scheduled. This does not affect any Little Warriors programs, nor does it affect Career Center students.

Grass Lake Community Schools "Points of Pride"The staff at Grass Lake Community Schools is happy that you are exploring our school district and welcome you to look deeper by reviewing some of our points of pride listed below.

Connected Community Schools
The Grass Lake Community School district is one of 13 Jackson County Connected Community School Districts, meaning that we are working together to provide our county’s students with the support they need and deserve by sharing our instructional assets.
Thanks to our community’s support our buildings have all been recently built or re-modeled. We take very seriously our responsibility to provide funding to keep them properly maintained in the future. All classroom areas are climate-controlled to enhance the learning environment.
A stable fund equity allows us to maintain our academic programming and cash flow from year to year without requiring us to borrow money for operations, while allowing us to secure a solid “rainy day fund” in the event of an unforeseen emergency purchase.
Every Grass Lake Student Has Their Own Computing Device
Grass Lake Community Schools has embarked on the utilization of $1.89 million in grant money to provide computing devices for all Grass Lake Kindergarten through 12th grade students. This allows each of our students the freedom to access the Internet, which includes individual and cohort learning processes, as well as better communication with parents through the Learning Management System, Schoology. View a letter from Superintendent Dr. Ryle Kiser for more information about the project.
We continue our relationship with area colleges and universities to offer our High School students opportunities to dual enroll and earn college credits while in high school, with also the options of enrolling in Advanced Placement classes and a multitude of optional advancement classes through the online Michigan Virtual High School offerings and E2020. Many of our Middle School 8th graders move into Grass Lake High School with High School credits in Math and Spanish.
Preschool and Child Care
Our Little Warriors PreSchool and Child Care has proven to be very successful as we care for children ages 12 months to 12 years old in our pre-school, latchkey, and daycare programs. Little Warriors also employs the Great Start Readiness Program for preschoolers.
Student Support and Extra-Curricular Activities
We are confident in our abilities to implement new programs, including our cooperative efforts with Jackson County’s “Energizing Education”, our implementation of “The Leader in Me” program in our Elementary and Middle Schools, and our High School's "Ignition" mentoring program and advanced placement program, both providing multiple opportunities for individual student comfort and growth. We are also advancing our students' opportunities in STEM education (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) with deeper curriculum integration and with after school programming, while also emphasizing the arts and manufacturing. Learn more about our STEM education at George Long Elementary School.
Our fine arts program offerings have remained consistent while we continue to expand our offerings through instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, and the performing arts. We are fortunate to have a beautiful 380 seat auditorium in which to perform.
Our interscholastic athletics and extra-curricular offerings are diverse, plentiful, and growing. We currently offer Varsity level football, boys and girls cross country, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, wrestling, boys and girls golf, boys and girls bowling, competitive and sideline cheerleading, girls soccer, and boys and girls track. We will be offering Varsity boys soccer in the fall of 2017. At the Middle School level we offer football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls cross country, competitive and sideline cheerleading, and wrestling. Also, our community's youth offerings offer diversity and flexibility.
We are Integral to Community Activities
We are continually cooperating with local municipalities to create an active and vibrant community for all ages and interests. This includes opening our buildings for public use of our fitness facilities and meeting rooms. See the Grass Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce website for more information about our community.
Our bus fleet remains current and we continue to expand our transportation availability to families living outside of our school district.
Our Future Can Be Your Future
We are excited about the positive direction of our school district and our ability to maintain financial stability while effectively instructing all students in our care. We invite inquiries from interested parties to further discuss the qualities of our school district and how we are supporting our students.
